I had another pretty big week this week with the print version of the article that Tracey Porpora of the Staten Island Advance (read the online article here) published in the print edition on Sunday. She dubbed me a “sure footed Sherpa” and I have to say that it really did define so much of what I do and who I am as an educator, an author and an entrepreneur and it led to me thinking about how I can best explain that using my social media, my blog and my other promotional venues. I am out and about quite a bit with speaking engagements and my college and career readiness seminars; my calendar is booking up quite nicely with different venues and places where I will share my lessons and expertise. Of course, I am also building great relationships with clients and other avenues for my business to grow, too in potential partnerships and more.
With my specific focus on career and college readiness, I also help more seasoned career folks and was so lucky to welcome some wonderful new clients for my resumes and branding packages – I have some posts brewing about some awesome feedback I have been getting from my professional clients in draft, too.
I want to focus this post on the college and career readiness focus of my business. As someone who has worked in and around colleges since 1994, I know a lot about how to be ready for college. In addition to that experience, the 13+ years I have spent inside the classrooms teaching the students and all of the people I have helped in terms of their application essays and resumes, I am definitely a person to have help with that big step of going from high school and college.
I began by blogging some posts on university advice and then found I had too much content to share and a blog did not quite cut it so I wrote from scratch my first book in the series of college and career readiness. That book, The Book on College Readiness, which I published this past February is a big part on some exciting initiatives I am working on and hope to share with you soon. I am almost done with the second installment The Book on Career Readiness.
Also as part of this business, I have launched and created seminars on how to be ready for college and career that I have been lucky enough to actually pilot at some local schools around Staten Island and now based on this wonderful Staten Island Advance article and some various recent speaking engagements (with more to come), I have a lot more going on with the momentum of this business.
I am not just about one side or the other but both sides – those just getting ready to begin their journeys with their first steps into college or university and I provide coaching and planning around how to pick the right school, how to be positioned via resume and extracurricular activities and how to weave that authentic story in the essays but also for those who are taking their NEXT steps. Either those just about to graduate from college or those for whom college is a long ago distant memory, I am helping them, too with my books on using entrepreneurial skills to stand out in a crowded marketplace, my seminars at Wagner College Department for Lifelong Learning
and my one on one client based relationships in creating and launching the best promotional materials for YOU.
I am so thankful that you are all on this journey with me – from those who read and share my content to my clients to my business partners and more – thank you so much for welcoming me to this field of college and career readiness and embracing my words, content, books and lectures. I cannot wait to help YOU take your next step! Remember, sharing is caring. Share my content in a small way on your social media to begin to use social media as a way to build your brand!
