Today was my first college readiness seminar! It is officially launched! In addition to that, I actually had a lot of stuff going on this week for my business and all of it has been awesome and I wanted to use my blog to share it with you. Here is all of what is new for The Next Step.
I started teaching at College of Staten Island this Monday and I am so far super loving being back in a college classroom after focusing on Grades K-12 since 2014. There is something about sharing my experiences and lessons to college students which is really fulfilling but I also really love sharing my wisdom with high school students; I have been helping students prepare for the real world since 2003 and so much of what I am building with my college readiness seminars and other initiatives have been built over the past 13 years of teaching and focusing on preparing for university and beyond. With the college readiness seminar, I am able to target these lessons for the younger students.
College students also benefit from my lessons, too. I was talking to them today about how to act on an interview. For me, though, getting this information out to the younger students is a dream of mine and is why I created the College Readiness Seminar, which moves me to my next update.
College Readiness Seminar
I launched this seminar for the first time today and it was so great. This has been a dream of mine since 2012 – the thought process behind taking the content and knowledge I share with my college classes and tailoring it to the age group of pre-college learners has been something I have worked very hard on. Launching it today and representing my company at a local high school was amazing. I spoke about how to manage college coursework, identify their majors / dreams and balance life with the skills most beneficial for them career wise. This was such a great experience for me and, I hope, the students. The feedback I got was super positive and I am scheduled to go back to speak to another class next week. Special thanks to the school that allowed me to come up!
Meetings & Clients
I am also working on some other exciting developments with clients and other ventures; I interact with clients on a daily basis and I have lots of new people searching me out, in no small part, because of my content. (More on that later.) I also had a great meeting today about leading some workshops and I will be updating more about that in the near future so stay tuned!
I am working hard on my books – yes, you read that right – books. When I first re-started this business, I really struggled with whether or not I should blog and why and how often. When I started in July, I relied on other articles to just write my feedback on and then in September, I began creating my own content. I relied on my 13 years’ experience as an educator to formulate my articles as though they are mini-lessons. Each of my articles and information can be used to launch any learning module and more based on my experiences and learning background.
In the beginning, blogging 5 days a week was a challenge and a chore. Now, I get inspired and just start writing and writing and I almost have my weekly blogs set up and ready to go over the weekend. At the bare minimum, I have at least 2-3 ready to go and just use inspiration to finish the other days. So I have at this point as of this posting 147 blog posts. That is a lot of content.
I was inspired recently to build out new content into EBook formats so now I am writing 2 EBooks. Yes, two EBooks. For the first book, I have more than 3 chapters of 11 total done on "Entrepreneur-ing - How To Use Entrepreneurial Skills To Launch Your Own Business Or To Be The Boss Of Your Career". I am loving building out this book with all original content; I am not repeating anything from my blog but instead creating all new content. More information and a free copy of Chapter 1 is available by clicking here: http://www.thenextstep1234.com/new-ebook-entrepreneur-ing.html
My second EBook which I have 2 chapters of 10 done is called The Book on College Readiness: The Prof's Guide to Surviving High School and Kicking Butt in College. This is inspired by my college readiness seminar but is also all original content and focused on helping people be ready for life after high school. So that is what is new with this entrepreneur; my plan is to continue to stay the course of creating awesome content, sharing it with awesome people and hopefully continuing to grow my company with some new and exciting partnerships and initiatives! What do you think of my updates? Happy Hunting!
