Most of us have heard the saying, “Do what you love and the money will come…” and I think most of us have discounted that saying – I know I have! In fact, for the first 12 years as a professor before I launched The Next Step I would often disparage that statement and say it is a nice thing to SAY but is not always how things work in real life.
I can now say I have been wrong but with a caveat. When you first begin your career, it is hard to know what you “love” and some people truly never identify that which they “love” to do. To say you “love” doing something means a combination of truly enjoying it AND being good at it. I mean, I love to sing but trust me, you do not want to hear me sing because I am tone-deaf. So instead of love, let’s call is passionate – that which you are passionate about is what you should do to build out your career and your next steps whether it be as an entrepreneur or just running your career like your own boss.
For me, being able to teach, write and present are my passions and building my business off of these 3 pieces of my skill set means that I am doing what I love and it is an actual career for me. I thought I would share today the results of doing what you love – the feedback from my courses and workshops:
