My small company is becoming quite large with potential! Yesterday, the SIEDC hosted the SI Green & Clean Festival and during it, they announced some big news about The Next Step and other lucky Staten Island small businesses!
I had met with the SIEDC a few months ago after being recommended to reach out to them by one of my clients. It was an amazing meeting and I was asked to apply for the GrowSI RFP, which was looking to identify new small businesses that were on a fast track to growth to allow them special access to SIEDC resources and members. I was also asked to speak at the Business Council meeting and at that meeting, I was informed my company was selected to be part of the GrowSI cohort.
Just want to take a minute to be open about being a momtrepreneur as I was sharing yesterday that my blog post was delayed due to a Kindergarten graduation – when I was informed about the GrowSI selection, I was told about the event that would announce my membership would be the SI Green & Clean Festival on 6/8, yesterday – the day I was posting about K graduation – I see things clicking for you already. I knew right away I could not be at the GrowSI announcement; there is nothing that would keep me away from my kid’s graduation (the mom that is me) but there was that entrepreneur part that was like hmm, can I swing it? Of course, I could not and it was quite ok – though it is just another part of the balancing act most moms (and dads and caregivers) maintain to be there for the most important things for their family and giving up something for their businesses or careers. I wrote more about that here.
I am so excited to be part of GrowSI – the article in the SI Advance is here: SIEDC SI Green & Clean Event and the information about GrowSI is:
"GrowSI is a "virtual" incubator/accelerator effort for firms that do not need a physical location. The purpose of GrowSI is to help facilitate new businesses growth, and further SIEDC's mission to improve economic development."
My company information was listed as:
"Lisa Nielsen, owner of The Next Step, which is focused on preparing career professionals and students for their next step. Lisa Vento Nielsen is a published author with books on using entrepreneurial skills to launch a business or be the boss of your career, going from zero to launch, college readiness and career readiness. "
This is an amazing accolade for my small business and I look forward to leveraging the SIEDC as I continue to build my business! What do you think about GrowSI? Happy Hunting!
